Blackmail...

Months ago we gave Kate an old digital camera and she took over 700 pictures in the span of a week or so. We just went through them last night and found some great shots (and hundreds of not-so-great shots). These had us laughing so hard. This is definitely blackmail material on Addy in about 5 years...

Addy says she was doing a dance and Kate was documenting. We were at Bill and Terri's house...we miss you!

We close on the house in the morning and will paint every wall and then have our things delivered. I'll take pictures...

MINOT!!!

We made it!!! We drove about 36 hours to get here and it took 16 days, but we're here! It's good to be semi-settled. It looks like we'll be closing on our house in the next few days and we can't wait to get permanently settled.

Phil's parents were so generous to give us their Buick. I had to send pictures of my expert packing. I know one more thing would NOT have fit in this car. We were all surrounded in the interior, as well. I got pretty claustrophobic, but the kids were so patient with it. We ran into no traffic, had perfect weather and everything worked out so well...we just couldn't even think of anything to complain about!

Chicago

In between New York and Chicago we stopped in Michigan to visit with my extended family. It was so fun to catch up with aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, great aunts and uncles and second cousins. We didn't take as many pictures as we should have because we had so much fun visiting.

Chicago was such a blast. We only spent two days there, but we filled them with tons of fun activities. We really enjoyed the city, especially Navy Pier.

We took a double-decker tourist bus around the city and I found out that even skyscrapers can be beautiful.

And then there was food...we had to do the tourist thing and have Chicago hot dogs and pizza...I'm sure I gained a few pounds on that stop...

The girls and I went to the American Girl place. We had a great time and even had lunch there. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for that price!

While at Navy Pier we let the kids "Build a Bear." They had heard other kids talking about it, but didn't really know what it was. They had so much fun making, dressing and naming their animals and Phil and I had fun watching them.

Henry is supposed to be rubbing his Super Dino's heart between his hands and making a wish. I think he was just following instructions, but he was pretty cute about it.

"Bethany" the Bunny

"Adelaide" the Bear

"Superman" the dino

We checked out Lincoln Park Zoo on our last afternoon and had a great time meandering around there. There were very few people there...I hate crowds, so that's always a good thing. At one point it got a bit windy and Addy said, "Wow, Chicago is pretty windy. They should call it the wind city or something." Good idea.

I can't believe the only good animal picture I got was of a squirrel. All the other animals would run when my camera came out. Maybe the Beekers gave them the head's-up.

Fire???

Today is our last day in Rochester and we went to the science museum. They had a great body exhibit that is traveling around the country and was truly fascinating.

In this picture the kids were paleontologists

The guys were news reporters reading off the teleprompter here...although, I think they were making up their own news...

So, at the end of the day, Henry pulled a fire alarm. The whole building had to evacuate and two firetrucks arrived. After they had verified that there was no fire, the fire captain gave Henry a semi-stern lecture about the danger of his action. It was quite an eventful day!

Rochester, New York

We're visiting our friends in Rochester for the next few days. Gary is Phil's best friend since age 12 and his family is a joy to be around. There's something for everyone and we're having a great time. We had fun visiting a local apple farm: picking apples, petting farm animals, and eating doughnuts...Next stop: Michigan...
