Sprinklers in April???

For those of you who have lived in Germany, you know how crazy this post is. It has been sunny and hotish for almost a month now. My yard actually needed to be watered and it was warm enough for the kids to be watered, too! Henry kept saying, "this is fun!" Of course, after a while he said he didn't want to wear his bathing suit any more..."can I wear Kate's?" Some things don't change...

Anna Karenina

One year and 868 pages later, I've finished it! I almost gave up twice, but different people encouraged me to see it to the finish. It was an interesting read, and quite insightful to the woman's mind (I hope the insights I got to a man's mind aren't accurate :) ), but boy, was it boring in parts! Now on to A Tale of Two Cities. I like Dickens better...

Venice

Venice was AWESOME!!! I never would have expected it to be as wonderful as it was. I loved the tiny streets, more like alleys, the bridges everywhere, the wonderful architecture, the colors and the shopping.

Terri and I went to see chamber orchestra one evening. They played The Four Seasons by Vivaldi (he was born in Venice); that was awesome!

We also went to see the islands of Burano and Torcello. Burano is an old fishing village where the homes seem to be in competition for the brightest paint job. It was amazing.

We also checked out some awesome museums and even got up at 4:30 one morning to get pictures before the tourists were up. We really hit it at a good time, though, the tourist season was at a bit of a lull, but the weather was perfect. It was a great time, but I was glad to be home with my family.

I took so many pictures, so it was hard to pick my favorites, so these are a variety of the things we saw.

Easter

This Easter we had such an awesome celebration. We started the day with Easter baskets and bags (thanks to Dave and Bev) and then we went to church for a brunch instead of Sunday School. The kids had a little Easter production with the idea of Resurrection Eggs and then after the service we had an egg hunt. As you can see from the pictures, it was a beautiful day. We had some friends over after church and while we were waiting for the roast to cook, we sat outside and enjoyed the sun and watched the kiddos play. After dinner we went for a nice walk and then came back for dessert. We ended the day by roasting marshmallows and then sitting around the fire and visiting. What a great way to remember our Risen Lord!

Keepers at Home

Twice a month, Addy and I attend Keepers at Home meetings where we get together with other home school girls to learn homemaking skills and Biblical character skills. This month, we are learning gentleness and baking. This particular week, the girls learned how to make pies. Addy just eats this stuff up...no pun intended (yeah, right)

Start with a prayer

Lots of questions

it's a hands-on experience

oh yeah, the butter...

The look of concentration

The Masterpiece

...and the topper of the night...remember how I said they were learning gentleness? Well, right after this moment I dumped Addy's pie on the floor...some things never change, right Mom?

School Pictures and Haircuts

We took the kids up to a local castle the other day and got school pictures for the girls. This is Addy's 4th grade picture and Kate's "preschool/kindergarten" picture. Henry and I got haircuts the other day so I thought I'd post pictures of those as well.
